World Press Photo 2019
From April 27th to May 26th, the CCCB hosts the 15th annual World Press Photo Exhibition.
For the 15th year, Barcelona becomes the world capital of photojournalism, with the arrival of the World Press Photo Exhibition. The 2019 edition comes to our city with the 134 winning photos, selected from among 78,801 images submitted to the contest by 4,738 international photographers. It’s an amazing opportunity to view images that will tour the world on the basis of their power, their drama, their impact, and the message they transmit and invite us to interpret
Among the photos on view will be the six nominated for the World Press Photo 2019 Photo of the Year Award, as well as the three projects vying for Story of the Year (a new award), and the six audiovisual works nominated for the Interactive of the Year and Video of the Year awards. Images shot in places like Zimbabwe, Colombia, Turkey, the United States, Chad and Syria surely warrant a good look, and usually a thorough study.
Organized by the Photographic Social Vision Foundation, the World Press Photo event this year is also complemented by a full program of parallel activities and guided tours that add an extra layer of depth to the images on view. To help spread the word, the hashtag #verparaentender (#seeingisunderstanding) will be used to highlight previously unpublished works that allow us to explore new stories through un-manipulated photos, altogether enriching the debate and discussion about what’s happening in the world around us.
