Shopping, performances, dining, culture, and other forms of entertainment line the Paseo de Gràcia on the traditional Shopping Night Barcelona. Every year, during this special event usually held in late November or early December, the shops, restaurants, and hotels of Passeig de Gràcia “make an evening of it,” and embellish Barcelona’s most prestigious and emblematic avenue, along with nearby streets, to welcome in the Christmas spirit. Businesses in the area open their doors for this highly unusual nighttime event that goes till nearly midnight. Together with Black Friday and the illumination of Christmas lights all over the city, this event marks the official start of the Christmas season, while incentivizing shoppers with numerous discounts, promotions, and special offers.
The commercial heart of the iconic boulevard (including shops, restaurants, hotels and bars) work together to choose a theme for the event. And with concerts, performances, and other entertainment, shoppers in attendance receive a special welcome into the neighborhood’s business at a highly irregular hour, to take advantage of major discounts and unique promotions.
The 2019 edition of Shopping Night will be particularly special, as this year marks the event’s tenth anniversary. And the organizers are already busy preparing for a lively evening, with performances, fine dining, and surprises to top last year’s spectacular event; in 2018, the theme was music, and the Passeig de Gràcia was equipped with seven stages upon which musicians performed some of the best tunes of all time, playing pop-rock, funk and jazz standards, rockabilly, and scores from popular films.
