The exhibition presents more than 200 original works by Maurits Cornelis Escher, known worldwide as the creator of impossible figures and worlds with the most impressive optical illusions in the world.

The exhibition offers a retrospective of the enigmatic sketches and paradoxical designs of this author, including early engravings and realistic drawings inspired by the nature and landscape of Italy. In addition, MC Escher's work on tessellation and the transformation of figures is further explored, illustrating how metamorphosis became a unique element of his art, combining fantasy and geometry. From the exhibition we highlight works made during the artist's surrealist period, such as: 'Hand with reflecting sphere', 'Bond of Union', 'Relativity' and 'Belvedere'.

Despite his knowledge of mathematics, his style was basically visual and intuitive. Escher created inexhaustible images, executed with undoubtedly exceptional detail and precision, reaching the representation of infinity, thanks to the play with architecture and perspective.

The international scientific community continues to praise the work of M. C. Escher as a symbol of the interrelation between art and science. And even today, his works continue to fascinate millions of people and inspire artists, architects, mathematicians, musicians and designers with their infinite, wonder-filled worlds.

Thanks to the agreement between the Consortium of the Royal Shipyards and the Maritime Museum of Barcelona, Evolucionarte and Arthemisia, a reference company in the organization of exhibitions, together with the collaboration of The M.C. Escher Foundation, Barcelona is able to move forward in the consolidation of the Shipyards as an emblematic cultural facility of the city.
