The MNAC is home to a rich collection of Roman frescoes, boasting one of Europe’s largest and best preserved inventories on public display.
The National Palace of Montjuïc, the site of the MNAC, was built between 1926 and 1929 for the 1929 International Exposition in Barcelona. King Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugenia presided over its inauguration at the grand Oval Room.
Today, the Museum houses one of Europe’s most unique permanent collections of romanesque art, on the basis of both the volume and the quality of its holdings. Among them, you’ll find the murals of the Romanesque Churches of Sant Climent de Taüll and Santa María de Taüll. The Museum’s collection of Gothic painting is also rather noteworthy, and features works by the most famous and influential Catalonian artists of the 14th and 15th centuries.
The wings dedicated to Renaissance and Baroque art include works by Berruguete, Ribalta, El Greco and Velázquez. The modernista period is wonderfully presented with works by Casas, Rusiñol and Gaudí, and it also features the original furbishment of Casa Lleó i Morera.
The Museum also has on display a diverse collection of metal and porcelain sculptures, engravings, and reliefs, and presents a remarkable display of the region’s history.
Un domingo por la mañana, después de que en otro museo de la zona no se hiciera actividad familiar, nos decidimos por este museo con varias opciones para visitar. Preguntamos por alguna actividad para realizar con niñ@s, nos comentaron que en la visita al Románico disponen de una actividad de búsqueda de pistas que pueden realizar los niñ@s que no depende de monitor, es por libre, les facilitan una hoja con indicaciones, y empieza el juego! Sala a sala, van recogiendo información para descifrar quién ha robado una importante pieza de la colección. Disfrutamos todos. Y ellos, después de descifrar el enigma y desenmascarar al culpable, consiguieron su título y chapa!!! Encantados.
Esperando que pronto dispongan de una actividad parecida para las salas del Gótico!
A mi entender cuenta con una de las mejores vistas de la ciudad, además, el edificio es muy bonito. De noche, y con las fuentes en marcha es un espectáculo visual incomparable, también como museo, recomendable. Quizás el último tramo se hace algo "largo" por las escaleras para gente mayor, pero repito, vale la pena.
